ABOUT CATHERINE GIL PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you need a relaxed and creative family portrait photographer who’s goal is to provide you with stunning images that you can treasure for years to come?
Hello! I am a Hitchin based family photographer and I use natural light and the outdoors to capture authentic moments for families. I like photographing families in a relaxed and informal way which involves minimal direction, using a documentary style to capture the story being told.
My aim is for the session to be fun, and to present a gallery of images that represents YOUR own unique family. My editorial style is both vibrant and personal - mixing a pop of colour (lovely for natural portraits) with timeless black and white (enhancing the more soulful and intimate moments).
Located in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, I have a number of suggestions for scenic beauty spots in the surrounding area. Alternatively I can travel to you and shoot in a location that has special meaning to you and your family. This might mean beginning in your home and then venturing to the local park.
If you have a dog that is willing and able to join us, then this can be a brilliant way of keeping everyone relaxed and engaged whilst capturing your family in it’s entirety - just be sure to walk them first and bring plenty of treats! I also offer a natural light studio space that is perfect for family or dog portraits.
Props can help tell the story - if your child wants to wear their favourite batman costume to the local woods then that is just fine with me. Any favourite teddy bears, scooters, musical instruments or other treasured items will all help to create personalised images that will capture this moment in time. If your child is a bookworm (like mine) then bring along that book!
Choice of clothing can help to give vibrancy and cohesion to the final image. It is a good idea to reflect the colours of the season in clothing for the shoot - a mustard yellow coat in Autumn (for example) will always look fantastic. I am happy to discuss ideas or you can check out my pintrest board.
I approach my work in a mindful and sensitive way, allowing moments of connection to unfold. This is the best way I know of capturing what is truly authentic. I welcome muddy knees in my photography - the only thing you need to do is be yourself.
