STUNNING OUTDOOR LOCATIONS IN BEDS AND HERTS
For Spring bluebells, Hitch woods is a magical location – although they don’t last more than a few weeks so timing is everything! We stick to the trails and are careful not to trample on this beautiful protected species, with the best time to arrive being the early morning or late afternoon – giving soft flattering light. In Autumn, the light at Chicksands woods during sunset hours takes on a really special quality as it filters through the trees, and this is a great spot for families with dogs and children who like to run free and play. Pegston Hills – especially with a kite in hand on a windy day – is ideal for silhouettes and fun family shoots if you can manage the hike up the hill; or for a picturesque setting with lots of interesting structures (and shelter if raining) Swiss Gardens at Shuttleworth offers a beautiful landscape – with 13 listed structures inside the garden as well as a very friendly peacock. A small entry fee is charged and the gardens are open year round.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN OUTDOOR SHOOT
Prior to the photoshoot I will call you for a chat and to get an idea of what your family enjoys doing together, as well as what you would ideally like to gain from the shoot. On the day of the shoot a good breakfast is key, and snacks along the way will help to keep children happy (in cold weather a flask of hot chocolate can make all the difference). Bring lots of spare items of clothing, wellies, sunhats e.t.c – if in doubt, bring it along. There will be no pressure on the day for anyone to pose or be at their very best, the idea is just to have as natural and interactive an experience as possible. Ideal light conditions will be just after sunrise or before sunset – so depending on your preference, that will be the optimal time of the shoot. There is no guarentee with the weather, and it is my job to make the most of the conditions that are presented on the day. Unless it is torrential rain, your shoot won’t be cancelled.
BOOK YOUR ON LOCATION FAMILY PHOTOGRAPY SESSION
If you would like to chat about possible locations and available dates for a photography session with your family, please make contact today. It is my pleasure to discuss any special requests or further questions that you may have.
HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL?
Within 15 miles of Hitchin for the prices as listed. Beach shoots are located in Norfolk. Group and one to one beginners photography training sessions all take place at my home studio in Hitchin.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR ON THE SHOOT?
Bring warm and comfortable layers, and for children a spare pair of clothes is a good idea. Try to avoid bold patterns, logo’s and stripes – which can all be distracting to the eye. Think about the season and the colours that you can see around you – try to reflect those colours in the clothes you wear. Take a look at my pintrest board for inspiration to complement the seasons. I will offer further advice around clothing during out initial consultation – which is covered in the creative fee.
DOES BAD WEATHER AFFECT THE SHOOT?
Unless it is torrential rain your photoshoot won’t be cancelled. Shots of children holding umbrellas and jumping in puddles are lots of fun – and I will find ways to make the most of the weather conditions. Bright sunny days are the least ideal from a photography point of view – so clouds are a bonus! Even on an overcast day, top shade is preferable to prevent unflattering shadows on faces. Shade can be found under trees and other areas of cover such as doorways and umbrellas. Ideal light conditions are found just after sunrise and before sunset. Family photography sessions that take place around these times are always the most atmospheric in terms of capturing beautiful light.
CAN I RESCHEDULE THE SHOOT DUE TO ILLNESS?
The creative fee is non refundable however as a mother of young children I understand that illness can strike – and often does – at the most inopportune of times. I will be most sympathetic to this and we can rearrange your shoot at no additional cost to you.
WILL YOU ASK FOR MY PERMISSION TO USE IMAGES TAKEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
I will always ask your permission to use any of the photographs from your shoot for my website or social media. You have every right to deny me that permission and are under no obligation to allow me to use them. Immediately after your photography session I will offer a ‘sneak peak’ on my social media pages that you are welcome to share with friends and family if you so wish.
